I used to have a classmate named Minerva. She was beautiful. Like the Goddess of Art & Wisdom. She eventually became a huge supporter of the arts. She also remains as beautiful as she used to when we were in our teens.

… I have absolutely no idea why I would even include that here. Oh, wait… yeah… it’s the disconnect between this topic and that childhood memory mirrored by this band’s sound and how they look. Think Creed but younger, chubbier and looking more innocent.

Stumbling across Minerva PH happened by accident. I have to admit, I was about to skip through their songs. That was until I heard the song Kalawakan.

The other songs they had on their Spotify playlist were a bit long so I naturally picked the shortest one. That led me to the next song, Daan.

I was surprised when I finally saw these boys’ pictures. There was a huge disconnect between their sound and the way they looked. They just looked too young and too carefree to have songs that talk about love and pain and hope and joy like that. Add the fact that their songs just rip through you with the huge guitar sound, precise drums and wait a minute… was that a violin?

Yeah, that was a violin.

One of the great things about my “job” is discovering new stuff and Minerva PH quickly became my favourite because of the layers and layers of sound their songs have. Each song comes out unique. Delivered only in the way they could… I guess.

I eventually got a hold of their road manager and she handed me some info that she wanted me to use. I decided not to and just give my honest account of how this band made me feel.

The vocalist, Ronson, sounds like an old soul singing about topics older songwriters can only hope to grasp from the ether. He is a gifted songwriter, I’ll give him that. Given enough time, he can produce even better songs. Listening to him now already gives me goosebumps. What more down the line a couple of years from now?

The rest of the band delivers the necessary musical platform he needs to keep things interesting. And everyone knows there are tons of songs out there that are just plain boring. Minerva PH, despite their age, has managed to skirt that and I’m hoping to see more of this band in the future.

They truly deserve more.

From their Road Manager: (with minimal edits)

Minerva PH based the band’s name off of a song of the same title from Deftones. Fittingly, Minerva is also the goddess of art and wisdom, as every member of the band is an artist in his own right.

Minerva PH is:

Ronson (vocals/guitar)

Micheal Bryan Creus (bassist)

Pen Potente (drums)

Allison Santos (rhythm guitar)

John Christian Seralvo (keyboardist).

The band was formed in April 2012. That’s 6 years of playing beautiful music together. I hope nothing changes that. They just look so… happy.

Their songs have made it to the top chart hits of Filipino Indie Artists (FIA) Radio, Reverbnation and Leerecs.com (online radio based in New York). The songs are also on the Top Requested Songs of Rakista Radio.

Below are some of Minerva PH’s achievements

  • Pinas BHBT Rocks on Pinas FM 95.5 (February 2017)
  • Pambansang Almusal on Net 25 (March of 2017)
  • Rock on Victoria Battle of the Bands – 2nd place
  • Pinas BHBT Rocks on Pinas FM 95.5 (2nd Radio guesting, September 2017)
  • Wonderstruck Battle of the Bands Grand Champion (November 2017)
  • Pinas BHBT Rocks on Pinas FM 95.5 (3rd Radio guesting, March, 2018)
  • Musikabataan Battle of the Bands Champion and Best Vocalist Award (October 2018)
  • Leerecs, an online radio based in New York Online guesting ( July, 2018)
  • AI Radio, an online radio based in Japan online guesting ( November, 2018)
  • Hype Radio Online Guesting (November, 2018)
  • MOR 101.9 Online Radio Guesting on March 2019

They are currently working on their newest songs titled “Maghihintay and Art of Lying”.

Oh and on September, they’ll be playing alongside TypeCast. That should really open up the floodgates for these boys.

I’m gonna place my bet and say this band is going to go a long way.
