The Week in Review – January 11 to 18, 2026

As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. That means I earn commissions from my sponsored links or I make money when readers (you) purchase items through my links. Your purchase allows me to continue working as a stay-at-home dad who moonlights as a farmer and a musician. Needless to say, this post contains affiliate links.

And just like that we’re 2 weeks, er three if you want to be technical about it in 2026 and things have been moving fast for me that it seems like everything’s been a blur since we welcomed the New Year.

That pretty much sums up how this week felt.

I had a theme in mind—eggs, of all things—which sounds ridiculous when you say it out loud, but if you’ve been following along across my sites, you know themes help me stay sane.

Or at least give the illusion that I have some kind of plan.

This week’s theme was supposed to be all about eggs but I some good news had to be mixed into topics I had which were not necessarily egg-related.

Well… you could say that on a tangent, it is kinda related to laying eggs.

And somehow, it still worked.

I think…

The Content We Put Out (January 11–16)

Here’s what went live across the network during the third week of January:

  • Jan 11 – Musika Wabad
Tamad si Juan Heading for the Muziklaban Finals
A huge win not just for the band, but for Davao’s indie scene as a whole.
  • Jan 12 – FilipinoWriters.com
Laying the Foundation for a Career as a Writer in 2026
Practical, grounded advice for writers who are tired of empty motivation posts.
  • Jan 13 – Jectra.com
Is Having an Egg a Day Healthy?
Nutrition, common sense, and a bit of myth-busting.
  • Jan 15 – HayopEtc.com
Australorps: Why I Just Have to Have Them
Chickens, eggs, pets, and the slippery slope of homesteading curiosity.
  • Jan 16 – Biyernes.com
The Disappearance of Pampers in the Philippines
Not something I planned to write, but something that needed to be said.

Muziklaban, Milestones, and the Long Game

For Juan Tamad, they’re laying the foundation for new, younger Davao bands to follow in their footsteps with their recent success at the Muziklaban semis. They’re off to the finals. So now we have three bands from Davao who’ve made a significant mark in the Muziklaban competition.

There’s:

  • Jack-in-the-Box – Mindanao Champion, 2000
  • David vs. Goliath – Grand Champion, 2012
  • and hopefully Tamad si Juan

If that happens, we can say that every 12 years, a Davao band wins. Hopefully the gap between years grows shorter.

And more bands from Davao win.

Writing, Eggs, and Other Foundations

The FilipinoWriters.com piece was really me talking to my past self. The one grinding through low-paying gigs, chasing validation, waiting for permission. “Laying the foundation” wasn’t about hacks or shortcuts. It was about:

  • Showing up consistently
  • Owning your platform
  • Writing even when no one’s watching
  • Accepting that progress looks boring most days

Meanwhile, on Jectra.com, I was literally just talking about eggs. Nutrition-wise. Is having one egg a day healthy? (Short answer: yes, for most people.)

Then on HayopEtc.com, eggs showed up again—this time through Australorps. Chickens as pets. Chickens as food sources. Chickens as a gateway hobby that turns into “why do I suddenly know so much about coop design?”

And for my post on Pampers disappearing from the local market… well… you could say that includes some laying of something that’s not necessarily an egg.

So yay! I still managed to keep to the theme.

Why Being Everywhere Is the Plan (for Now)

If you’ve been following FilipinoWriters, Jectra, Musika Wabad, Hayop Etc, and Biyernes for a while, you’ll notice a pattern emerging in 2026.

I’m being loud. On purpose.

Across:

  • Blogs
  • Facebook pages & groups
  • Instagram accounts
  • YouTube channels
  • TikTok profiles
  • Spotify (for Acid Radius and related projects)
  • Personal site (chipcanonigo.com)

Because consistency is the key and it compounds over time.

Quietly.

Slowly.

Sometimes painfully.

Here’s how it roughly breaks down:

PlatformFocus
FilipinoWritersWriters, freelancing, mindset
JectraHealth, self-improvement, everyday discipline
Musika WabadLocal music, bands, scene documentation
Hayop EtcPets, animals, practical care
BiyernesCulture, products, tech, and “cool things to do on a Friday”

Resolutions Weren’t Just Posts

Early January was packed with New Year’s Resolution pieces across all platforms, and those weren’t filler.

They were markers.

  • Writing goals
  • Health goals
  • Creative goals
  • Sustainability goals

Once you put those things out publicly—on blogs, on Instagram, on Facebook, on YouTube—it’s harder to quietly quit.

Which is kind of the point.

On another note, this day was great as it started out with Lyle, Margaux and I having breakfast with my sister-in-law, April. We managed to catch up as much as we could within the short span of time that we had.

Captain Jang paid for our breakfast at Apo View Hotel so that was something and while April went to her room to prepare her luggage for their afternoon flight back to Manila, (after their board meeting for DXYP Mango Radio, of course,) Captain Jang sneakily came back and proudly told us about her achievements in social work.

He was like a proud father beaming with pride laying out his daughter’s achievements.

In the afternoon, I had a back-and-forth chat with my cousin about video setups because he’s way more experienced than I am when it comes to these things.

And as I was writing this article, he informed me that his son and my son are going to be sharing brthdays a few days from now.

So, that was cool.

And that’s kind of how this whole week felt. Busy. Slightly chaotic. Full of small wins. Full of movement. Not perfect. Not polished. But very much alive.

If this is how January’s going, then yeah—2026 is going to be a lot.

Whew.

Good luck, I guess?

PS: So far, I’ve come up with two Youtube videos that I’m slowly learning from. Please watch and Like and SUbscribe so I can get the ball rolling 🙂
