I’ve been watching that building go up along Mamay Road for a while now… my wife and I would pass by it every now and then and wonder, when is this thing gonna open?

We had no idea it was going to be a café at first.

Or that it would also have a kids playroom.

Or that it would run 24 hours.

But the moment we found out, we were already planning our first visit even before the doors opened.

And finally, yesterday, I attended the grand opening of Mr. Wen Café + Super Kids on May 1, 2026 as part of the Davao Bloggers Society… and yes, I brought my wife and my son Lyle with me.

Because I knew, even before setting foot inside, that this was going to be a place we’d be visiting a lot.

My wife told me that Mr. Wen Café isn’t exactly a new name in Davao City.

The brand first opened its doors back in August 2023 at the Ascendido Building in the Pryce Business Park along J.P. Laurel Avenue… and it quickly became a go-to spot for those who wanted something a little different.

She said it was a good, instagrammable café with good wifi, decent food, and a cozy vibe without being too expensive.

This new branch along Mamay Road, though… this one is different.

This one has Super Kids.

And it runs 24 hours.

So it’s not just a café anymore.

It’s potentially a family place for those who think like me.

Plus Points for Being Strategically Placed and Brilliantly Located

The new Mr. Wen Café is situated right at a gas station along Mamay Road… which is such a smart move.

There’s a lot of space.

Enough space to park your car without that anxious feeling of circling around looking for a slot.

And if you’re a parent like me, you know how valuable that is when you have a kid in the backseat who’s already asking if you’re there yet.

There’s also a bank right across the street.

Which is convenient because… well, once you see the menu, you might want to withdraw a little more (kidding, the prices are actually very reasonable).

But the point is, everything is within reach.

You park, you eat, your kid plays, and life is good.

Now here’s something I’ve noticed and I think a lot of people will eventually realize… there are coffee shops nearby.

Popular ones.

And they’re almost, almost always full.

So where does the overflow go?

Well… it goes to the nearest best alternative.

And right now, that alternative, I believe, is Mr. Wen Café. The location is not just convenient, it’s actually very, very, very strategic.

The interior of Mr. Wen Café is… okay, how do I describe this…

Imagine you’re sitting by a large open window, brick wall to one side, the whole busy stretch of Mamay Road in front of you, and you’re just… sitting there, sipping your coffee, watching life go on outside.

Like you have some superpower to stop time just by stepping through those doors.

Yeah, that’s it.

The brick walls give it warmth.

The large windows make it feel open and airy.

It doesn’t feel cramped or overly designed.

It feels like a place where you can just relax.

I know that means a lot for a lot of people. Or for me, that is everything.

I’m probably going to find reasons to come here to work at night.

Just because.

The ambience is that good.

The Food:

Full disclosure: I ate for free at the opening as part of the media guest list. But my wife and my son… I paid for them.

And I was happy to pay for it because their food is that good!

My wife had the Bangsilog… she loved it.

My son Lyle had the quesadilla, which he finished pretty quickly for a kid who sometimes pretends not to be hungry.

And for the two of us, I ordered two venti cups of café de leche, which I paid for using my Maya black card.

Very smooth transaction.

No hassle.

The food was great.

Simple as that.

You just eat and enjoy it without overthinking about plating and how it looks.

I remember looking at my wife and thinking… yeah, we’re coming back here.

Super Kids: Where Lyle Spent Most of the Time

Okay so my son Lyle… he is a lot.

In the best way possible.

The kid has energy levels that should probably be studied by science.

And Super Kids?

It was made for him.

The play area had slides, a mini trampoline (which Lyle immensely enjoyed), a lego construction area, a mini pedal car, lots of mini chairs, and several play house sections where kids can pretend they’re in a hospital, a kitchen, a mini house… basically a whole imaginative world inside a room.

My wife and I sat there, sipping our café de leche, just watching him run around. It was one of those rare, calm parent moments where you can actually finish a sentence without interruption. And I thought… this is what Mr. Wen Café + Super Kids is for. This exact moment.

I would absolutely recommend this place to moms and dads who need a moment to breathe while the kids burn off that seemingly endless supply of energy.

Open 24 Hours? Oh Yeah!!!!

This is the part that I think a lot of people will appreciate over time… Mr. Wen Café on Mamay Road runs 24 hours. Think about what that means.

Call center agents looking for a place to eat after a shift at 3am?

Mr. Wen Café.

Students cramming for a midterm and need a quiet, wifi-ready spot at midnight?

Mr. Wen Café.

Night owls like me who just need a good cup of coffee and a peaceful corner to think?

You guessed it.

Mr. Wen Café.

A place to find me in case I’m reported as a missing person?

Mr. Wen Café.

Hehehehe

There really aren’t that many options in Davao City that cater to both the day crowd and the late night crowd without compromising on quality.

Mr. Wen Café is gong to fill that gap… and I honestly think this branch is going to be busier than people expect.

Side Note: The Farmer in Me Noticed Something

This might be a weird thing to put in a café review but… they have a rainwater catchment system outside. I saw it and I had to stop. I actually went out and took a photo of it because I want to emulate that on my wife’s farm.

It’s a small detail that says something bigger about how this place was designed. It wasn’t just built to look pretty. There was thought put into it. And that kind of thing… I appreciate it a lot more than most people probably would.

The Staff: Composed and Efficient

Even though it was their opening day… the staff was very accommodating.

No chaos, no confusion, no making you feel like they were still figuring things out.

They moved with confidence that comes from experience. Signs that these people know what they’re doing and they’ve probably been trained well.

That’s actually reassuring as a regular customer.

Because a good product can fall apart if the service is inconsistent.

But here, at least on opening day, they handled it well.

A Dream for Calinan

This is something I’ve been thinking about for a while now… and seeing Mr. Wen Café + Super Kids laid out the way it is, it kind of crystallized something for me.

I want to put something like this up in Calinan someday.

A multi-business compound that my wife and I could own together.

The most important part, would be the coffee shop.

Because a good coffee shop is a community hub. Add a laundry area, a mini store, maybe a few other small businesses around it… and you have something that serves the neighborhood in multiple ways while being sustainable as a business.

Mr. Wen Café + Super Kids is basically a blueprint for that kind of thinking. Café, play area, good food, 24-hour access, strategic location.

It’s convenience packaged beautifully.

And it works.

Quick Look: Pros and Cons

PROSCONS
Great food (bangsilog, quesadilla, more)
Excellent café de leche
Large, comfortable parking space
Open 24 hours
Super Kids play area for children
Beautiful, relaxing interior
Experienced, efficient staff
Cashless payment accepted (Maya, etc.)
It might get crowded fast (because it’s that good)
Play area fee (worth it, but still a cost)
Might be hard to leave once you’re settled in

Final Verdict

Mr. Wen Café + Super Kids, in a nutshell… is convenience packaged in a nice café and a thoughtfully designed play area.

It’s for families who want to enjoy a meal together without sacrificing either quality or fun.

It’s for solo workers who need a good space and great coffee at any hour.

It’s for students and call center people who need a reliable spot that doesn’t close on them.

Even now I can say that I am gonna love this place.

My wife already loves it.

And Lyle… he absolutely loves this place.

And I’m pretty sure the next time we drive past Mamay Road and I say, ‘let’s stop by,’ nobody in the car is going to argue.

Go visit. Bring the kids. Order the café de leche. And let the evening take care of itself.

Mr. Wen Café + Super Kids

Location: Mamay Road, Davao City (inside a gas station compound)

Hours: Open 24 hours

Oh and last thing… I immensely enjoyed the beef short plate that the owner kept on recommending to me on the buffet… looks like that’s one of their special plates.
