Today’s entry is going to be a short one.
Brain’s a bit fried, honestly.
I spent yesterday writing across all my sites celebrating Happy Mother’s Day and this is probably the last piece I’ll write for this particular occasion (for now, at least).
But I wanted to say a few things before the day ends.
My mom passed when I was 18. That’s almost three decades of Mother’s Days without her physically here… and yet every second Sunday of May, she shows up anyway.
In a memory.
In a habit I didn’t know she gave me.
In the way I sometimes catch myself thinking, “she would’ve liked this.”
I’m 47 years old now and I still think about her.
To my mom… thank you.
For everything.
For the sacrifices we only understand once we become parents ourselves.
To my wife… thank you for giving me our son.
That boy is a walking, laughing, endlessly-moving ball of pure joy and I wouldn’t trade a single chaotic second of it.
And to every mother reading this… you matter more than you probably know.
Happy Mother’s Day!
If you’ve got a few minutes today, here’s what I wrote yesterday across the other sites. Each one’s a little love letter to moms, just in different forms:
filipinowriters.com — My mom was a class valedictorian who believed you didn’t need to study for hours to do well. She had a 30-minute study time rule for us that really helped us do well in school.
jectra.com — How a mommy’s kiss cures any boo boo. You know it’s true. Science hasn’t fully explained it but moms have known this forever.
musikawabad.com — Ten of the best OPM songs written for moms. Put one on today. Let it play while you call her, or while you just sit quietly and remember.
hayopetc.com — Ten of the best moms in the animal kingdom. Turns out humans aren’t the only ones who go all out for their kids. Some of these will genuinely surprise you.
biyernes.com — Top 10 minivans for Filipino moms. Practical, a little aspirational, and honestly… if I had unlimited money, I’d buy one in a heartbeat. Mostly for me, but that’s beside the point.
Happy Mother’s Day, everyone.
Hug your mom if you still can.
Call her if she’s far.
And if she’s already gone like mine… just remember her today. That’s should be more than enough.
