Our bodies need nourishment.
Good food.
With good food, we become healthier.
The same goes for our spirits.
With good energy fed into it, we become happier, more giving to our fellow men. Here are my thoughts on the Nutrition Month which the Philippines celebrates very July.
My Son’s School Just Celebrated Nutrition Month
In the Philippines, July is celebrated as Nutrition Month, and July 30 is usually the culminating day when schools and communities hold programs, parades, cooking contests, and seminars.
The whole month is about raising awareness of good nutrition, healthy eating habits, and fighting malnutrition, especially among children.
There’s usually a theme and some fun events that the kids participate in while teachers use this as an opportunity to remind families about the importance of balanced meals—rice, fish, vegetables, fruits, and yes, even proper hydration.
Last year, because I was so excited to celebrate it as a first-time Dad with a preschooler, I cooked a big batch of pancit, toasted some bread, and boiled some eggs and brought it to school as my son’s contribution to the event.
This year, we were just told to contribute money.
I guess they didn’t like my cooking…
Hehehe
Anyway, it’s not just about what’s on the plate, though.
Nutrition Month is also about teaching communities that health, education, and even productivity are deeply tied to how well-nourished people are.
A child who eats well learns better, and a family that values good nutrition usually enjoys a happier, more energetic lifestyle.
Lyle usually eats well but he tends to lean towards eating meat a lot. I have to make sure I throw in some veggies and fish into his diet otherwise he’s gonna be a malniourished kid.
And Now for the Spiritual Side of Things
They say a wife’s energy is like the weather inside the home—if it’s bright and warm, everyone feels lighter, but if it’s stormy, the whole house shakes.
A husband often mirrors what his wife radiates.
Positive energy—encouragement, patience, and kindness—gives him strength, confidence, and the drive to do better.
He comes home recharged, ready to love his family and provide stability.
But negative energy—constant criticism, resentment, or cold silence—can drain him faster than any workload.
It chips away at his confidence, leaves him restless, and sometimes, even distances him from the people he loves.
The children feel this too.
When a wife’s energy uplifts the husband, the family flourishes; the kids grow up in an atmosphere of love and security.
But when negative energy takes over, kids pick up on the tension, and that becomes their “normal.” A wife’s energy isn’t just about her—it’s the unseen current that can either build or break the flow of love inside a family.
Oh and Just Because You’re a Man Doesn’t Mean You’re Exempt
The things you do also affect your wife.
This could turn into a vicious cycle.
Like always ask yourself, why is your wife always angry at you.
Do you go out late at night? Do you do things she doesn’t necessarily approve of?
You would be very lucky to find a wife that can tolerate your bad behavior and not turn her energy into a bad one.
I saw this in my mom and dad. My dad has a very active social life while my mom preferred to stay at home or mingle with her social circle during events she and my dad attend.
My mom was a very patient woman and she never let us feel that there was something wrong. There’d just be times when we’d go to where our Dad was and sh would pick him up because it was either too late at night or he was too drunk to drive.
But she never got angry at our dad while we were present.
I knew they argued but it was always in private.
We were never a witness to that.
Because of my mom, I vowed to myself that I would not do the things husbands usually do to their wives that caused friction in a marriage.
I’m trying.
I’m not perfect.
Good thing I don’t drink or smoke anymore.
And my only current vice these days is to serve.
Hehehehe… just like that Senator Bong Go… Bisyo ang mag-serbisyo!
Nah… I think I also spend too much time looking at guitars on Lazada or online.
Which Brings Me to the Lsat Thing… a Trouser Jacket!
I like cool, weird things.
And I recently came across this one:
it’s a trouser jacket!
So it starts out as a jacket that has attachments that turn it into a jacket with trousers!
Man, where was this when I needed it a few months ago?
If you remember, it was raining hard back in May and there was a time I had to walk in the rain. My pants got a bit wet and because it was raining really hard, the moisture seeped through the jacket I was wearing.
I wonder how I would have felt during that time if I had this in my possession?
I bet I would have worn a silly grin all throughout my walk from the house to the work-sharing space.
