So it’s August now and the durian trees haven’t yielded any fruits. It’s not like I was really expecting any this year. Last year wasn’t as good and we’re still in the process of rehabilitating the old existing durian trees we have so, not much luck on the harvest.

And another thing, there’s climate change and all that. I’ve been asking around and almost all other farms in Calinan are experiencing the same thing. Oh well I hope they have some good luck coming their way in the next few days otherwise everyone’s gonna be sad.

Looks like the earliest we can expect some harvest is on September.

How sad… and it’s the 40th Kadayawan pa naman…

Had a TUF Day with Lyle

On the brighter side of things, Lyle and I finally got a haircut at TUF!

TUF is located at Cluster 8, Azuela High Street, Lanang, Davao City. If you want to book your haircut ahead of time, you can do so by calling the number +63926 0540 789. They’re open every day from 10:00AM to 9:00PM.

It’s conveniently located near other beauty and care shops for women so your wife or GF can peruse of those services. While she does that, you can get your hair cut instead of miserably waiting on a stool while she gets pampered.

We availed the TUF Father and Son promo which helps you save a lot on the haircuts for two plus you get complimentary tea and a chocolate drink for your kid.

One piece of advice I learned early on in life is that if you find a barber that gives you the best treatment, you stick with that barber for as long as you can.

I once had that here in Davao City but I haven’t really been in contact with my good friend Neil since he changed careers. So, I had to find one but I never really liked the barbershops in malls.

For a time, Lyle got his haircuts through there and once in Manila.

I had to find one fast. Thankfully, one of Lyle good friends at school’s dad is a partner at TUF. He and I had also become good friends and naturally, you support your friend’s business.

So we went there to finally get a haircut for Lyle and since the promo meant I’d save a few pesos, I went in and had my haircut done as well.

At first I was apprehensive because the barbers were young. I’m more accustomd to older barbers. But these kids were really good.

I just let my barber do his stuff and put my entire trust in him to make me look good.

Lyle seemed to enjoy his barber a lot.

He was also finished far quicker than me.

I had to go through a shampoo which is something I’m not used to. I mean I don’t recall a time when I had a shampoo at a barbershop. Not that it was a bad experience.

I rather kinda enjoyed it.

So that’s why women like going to salons…

And then I got the prerequisite hot towel on my face. Ah… finally something more familiar and a brief massage.

A really good experience.

And while there a workmate of mine from Zywave also walked in and had his hair done.

My wife was served some tea while waiting and Lyle and his friend Jacob were running around the barbershop.

The shop had a really nice minimalistic look. Very masculine with its industrial treatment which helps men accept the treatments better I guess. A reassuring gesture that we’re still in the right place for men. Not that I mind getting a haircut in a woman’s beauty salon… women’s beauty salons have a way of treating you better especially if you sport long hair and want a little bit more flair with your hair…

So I finally found a place that I can visit every month to get a haircut with Lyle and come out looking really good.

Why Men Also Have to Care for Themselves

I wasn’t paid to write this review. Nor was I promised a discount in the future or get preferential treatment.

I just liked the experience enough to write about it.

But more than that, I wanted to say something about men needing to take care of themselves better and more regularly. There are thousands of articles dedicated to women and self-care but only a handful for men.

It’s really important.

Men are expected to be breadwinners. To always be ready to face challenges and be that strong person in everyone’s lives.

It has been ingrained in men’s minds since they were kids.

There’s nothing totally wrong with that.

Society needs strong men.

But men should also not forget that we don’t need to be strong all the time. That there are times when we can bring the walls down and be a little bit more sensitive to others and more importantly to ourselves.

We don’t have to take ourselves to seriously or be afraid that we get viewed as lesser in the eyes of the others because of the things we do or cannot do.

That can lead to serious mental trauma.

One way to care for yourself is to go get a haircut.

And if you’re gonna do that, go get a haircut at TUF.

Hmmm… I should bring my dad here the next time he visits… and I wonder… will the TUF Father and Son promo apply to us? Can I still be the toddler if we get that promo?

Hehehe

Anyway, here are some pics of that TUF day Lyle and I had:
