I love Korean food.
I do not love grilling especially if I’m paying for it.
Every time we go to a Korean BBQ place I end up anxious about whether the meat is cooked enough, distracted by the smoke, and somehow less hungry by the time everything is ready.
I just want to eat.
Is that too much to ask?
Hwaro Won at the Damosa Business Center in Lanang might be my answer to that very specific problem.
Located at Unit 11, Ground Floor of the DRC Building along Damosa Lanang in Buhangin, Davao City, this place does Korean grilled meat the way it should be done… efficiently, without making you feel like you’re running a small kitchen in the middle of your dinner.
The staff handles things.
You just show up hungry and ready to eat.
And hungry you should be, because the side dishes alone are enough to fill you up if you’re not careful.
The banchan just kept coming, small plates of this and that, pickled and seasoned and endlessly refillable, and by the time the actual meat arrived I was already halfway to full.

I’m not complaining.
Just saying so that you won’t make the same mistake I did because the meat is super delicious and should not be missed.

We went for the aged short rib beef and it was cooked to a perfect golden brown on the outside and when cut into smaller pieces, revealed a faintly pinkish tinge. It was crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside.
Lyle loved it.
Next came the pork belly.

And after that the yakiniku?
I also tried what I think was a potato pancake (gamjajeon)… crispy on the outside, soft inside, like a hash brownbut thinner and more savory… I ate 3.

One thing I noticed and genuinely appreciated: the place doesn’t have that heavy greasy smell that clings to you after some Korean BBQ spots.

High ceilings and what seems like a very efficient ventilation system make the whole experience cleaner and more comfortable than expected.
The staff was warm and accommodating throughout.
No rush, no attitude, just good service paired with good food.
Hwaro Won is now firmly on our list.
If you’re in the Lanang area and you want Korean BBQ without the performance anxiety of managing your own grill, this is your place.

Gamsahamnida Annyeong!
Did I say it right?
